All Star games are designed as an opportunity to show off what great players have done all year long. But sometimes, it gives those players a grand stage to show off something special, something they’ve never done before. Like Steve Longo, of Bayport-Blue Point, who hit the first inside-the-park home run of his career at the RTC Challenge Game.

Long Island’s All-Star Baseball Game, was held at SUNY Farmingdale Baseball Stadium on Friday June 8th at 7:00PM. The Rawlings RTC Grand Slam Challenge showcased some of the best Senior baseball players from Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Nassau County won the nine-inning game by the score of 4-2.

Individual honors were awarded to several players, including MacArthur’s Will Cheshire, who hit a two-run double and won the best hitter award of the RTC Challenge Game. Herrick’s Alex Katz looked powerful in pitching a 1-2-3 inning and took home the best pitcher award. Mike Rizzitello of Connetquot was voted the Rawlings catcher of the game. East Islip’s John Dondero won the Suffolk MVP award after making a diving, run saving catch in the outfield. And Alex Robinson of Holy Trinity won for Nassau, retiring six batters in a row.
