Sag Harbor - According to Hampton Whalers President Rusty Leaver, comedian and team sponsor Jerry Seinfeld has agreed to throw out the first pitch at Sunday's playoff game against Peekskill, scheduled for Sag Harbor's Mashashimuet Park (4 p.m.). Leaver extended the invitation via e-mail, and on Wednesday, Seinfeld, who has a house in East Hampton and is an avid baseball fan, replied saying he would be "honored" to participate.

"The coaches, players and front office of Hamptons Collegiate Baseball are very excited to have Jerry Seinfeld throw out the first pitch at the team's first ever playoff game," Leaver said. "Jerry has been one of the team's major supporters from the start, and his contribution, with others, has been responsible for the Hampton Whalers summer-long series of free clinics for the youth and Little League baseball programs in the surrounding area."

In addition to Seinfeld, Billy Joel is also expected to be among those in attendance. Other local celebrities such as Howard Stern have been spotted at games this season.

Left-hander Andrew Guarrasi will take the ball for the Whalers, who won 12 of their last 18 games, including three of four against Peekskill last weekend, to in all likelihood seize the second seed in the Kaiser Division. In game one of Saturday's doubleheader, Guarrasi struck out 12 Robins in his side's 2-1 victory. With whom the Robins will counter has yet to be determined.

Despite all the fanfare, the time and date of the game has yet to be confirmed. Metro N.Y. currently sits in first place at 19-18, yet with three games remaining, the chance remains that the Cadets will lose out and drop into a tie with Hampton and, with a loss to Peekskill this weekend, the Robins. According to ACBL Vice President Tom Bonekemper, the Whalers would win the division title by holding a 9-7 mark against the two other teams locked at 19-21, with Peekskill taking the No. 2 spot, and Metro falling to No. 3.
