Game 1 - Red Birds 13 – Hurricanes 5

The Red Birds’ offense scored in each inning except for the second, and pounded out 13 hits to breeze past the Hurricanes in the first game of Saturday’s double-header. Joe Mendez (St. Joseph’s College – Brooklyn) had a perfect day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double, triple, RBI, and three runs scored. Anthony Eichorn (Molloy) gave up three earned runs in five innings, but notched eight strikeouts on the way to his second win. Brian Murphy (Molloy) had a pair of doubles, and Anthony McQuade (Mercy) had an RBI single for the Hurricanes.

Game 2 - Red Birds 12 – Hurricanes 2 (F/5)
Joe Mendez (St. Joseph’s College – Brooklyn) continued his hot streak, going 2-for-2 with a double, 2 RBIs, HBP, and run scored. With today’s performance, Mendez leads the NACBL with a .478 batting average. The Red Birds, leading 3-2 going into the bottom of the fifth, exploded for nine runs in the bottom half of the frame to force a mercy-rule victory. Joe Hauer’s (Nassau) single and two base error unloaded the bases and brought the score to within a run of the mercy rule limit, and Mike Cundari’s (St. Joseph’s College – Brooklyn) sacrifice fly two batters later ended the game. John Payne (Trinidad State) gave up no earned runs on four hits in five innings of work to pick up a shortened complete game victory.
