By Hot Stove League, 07/28/14, 10:45PM EDT

The Hot Stove League is a new baseball league on Long Island. This is a team that plays in the league this summer.

The Merrick Vipers 7U team debuted in June 2014 and represent Merrick’s first travel team in the 7U category. Merrick has established a strong foundation of competitive baseball and this group of kids is excited about the opportunity to follow that tradition.

Through the first part of the season, the team has proven to be very deep and versatile. The coaching staff has successfully managed to keep all kids involved by rotating across the field and has fostered a positive learning environment. All aspects of the game – pitching, defense and hitting – are continuous focal points as we grow as a team and advance each player’s skills and knowledge. The coaches stress the fundamentals so that the foundation is established as the kids get older and rules broaden. They enforce the need for all players to have a role and strive to ensure they have fun while also reiterating the importance of good sportsmanship.

The team is comprised of Anthony Biviano, Austin Jackson, Danny Goodman, Eli Lowenstein, Evan Schneir, James Vakkas , Joey Goodman, Joey LaScala, Josh Migdal, Liam Miley, Lucas Vesely, Matthew Sferratore, Noah Zinman and Tyler Marcus.

The Vipers have tremendous support from the players’ parents, family and friends, as well as its sponsors DJM Restoration (Long Island City) and Hurricane Grill & Wings (Garden City).
